Let’s Have a Chat About Blogmas and Life!

Hello everybody! Woah, it feels like it has been FOR-EV-ER since I last posted! The last post that went up was on the 3rd November, and even that was pre-written.

November has been a very very busy month. I feel like I haven’t stopped! So, I’m going to give you a whistle-stop tour of everything that has gone down since I last properly updated you.

As you are aware, I want to go to university next year and train to become a primary school teacher; my UCAS application was sent off on the 24th October. Within a week, I had received invitations to 5 interviews – I was so shocked to have received invitations so quickly! I wanted to give myself a bit of time so that I could properly get some work experience to talk about, and plan out what I would say in interviews, so I moved them back until the middle of November, but I will get onto that in a bit.

I started off November in London! My family and I took a day trip into London to see some sights and have a general wander about. I’m not going to spill all of the details in this post as I would love to do a whole blogpost sharing what we got up to, but we had a wonderful day!

The day after, I sat my skills tests! If you are unsure of what these are, to get onto any teaching course at university, you have to pass a test in English and Maths. It’s a similar type of thing to a driving theory test. So, I went on the 2nd November to sit both my English and Maths tests. I wanted to get them both out of the way before my A-Levels and mocks. I was completely fine with the English, however the Maths nearly killed me off haha! They weren’t difficult questions, it was just the timing which made it very intense. There was a section of the Maths test which is completely mental arithmetic, no calculator, read aloud so no words, and timed (you have about 18 seconds once the computer has read the question out). I was so so so worn out by them, but I PASSED THEM BOTH FIRST TIME! Honestly, I’m so glad! I couldn’t bare having to go and sit them again.

Then it was one of my good friend’s (GLITTER THEMED) birthday party – it was such a blast! Let me tell you, I was up on the dance floor singing my heart out the whole night! My voice had completely gone the next day and I felt so rough, haha! Here’s a picture of me with two of my gorgeous friends – I’m sure they won’t mind.

Going back to school was something which I had dreaded. However, it really wasn’t as bad as I expected! It was nice to see all of my friends again and have a good laugh.

Finally, I managed to get work experience SORTED! If you have been following me on this journey, you will know that I have really struggled to get work experience. My mom went to work at my local primary school and she mentioned my emails to the lady who sorts out work experience, and then I started there on that Friday.

I’m continuing my work experience until Christmas. It has been such an eye-opening experience! I love going there each week and the children look forward to seeing me (well, at least I hope so). I’ve been getting involved in many different things such as RE lessons, art and craft activities, writing activities, maths lessons – I’ve definitely had a variety! It’s definitely confirmed that primary teaching is the career I want to go into.

Going back to my interviews… So far, I have had interviews at Worcester, Newman (it’s in Birmingham), Wolverhampton and Birmingham City. I have been offered a place at Worcester and Newman and I’m still waiting to hear back from Wolverhampton and Birmingham (however, my interviews were this week so I’m not expecting to hear back soon!). I have an interview at Derby in a couple of weeks but to be honest, I don’t think I’m going to go. I would have to miss a full day of lessons to go, it would cost a lot on the train (and it takes about an hour and a half) and I don’t really want to go there anymore to be honest! Also, I have to do a 10 minute micro-teach which I’m not looking forward to… My favourites are probably Worcester and Birmingham, but I have no idea where I’m going to end up – only time will tell!

So, the reason I have been very absent from blogging and social media in general is because I have been using all of my evenings and weekends to do school work.

Now, moving onto Blogmas! Originally, before life had got busy, I had planned to post every other day up until Christmas. However, as of today I only have 3 blogposts written out of 12! Instead, I’m going to post about 5-6 times (at least) in the run up to Christmas. The series is going to be named “Alexmas” because I feel like it has a good ring to it. I have some exciting posts coming your way so keep your eyes peeled!

Thank you for reading, enjoy your weekend!

    1. Ah it definitely was! November is always pretty gloomy but I feel like this one was so much more exciting! London was so lovely, especially because the trip wasn’t stressful at all! All I need to do now is get the grades to get in haha! xx
