Hello everybody, and a Happy Christmas Eve-Eve to you all! I’m so sorry that I’ve been slacking on these Christmassy blogposts; I lost all motivation when I had another gift guide post to go up and it wiped itself! I had saved and scheduled it, but then when I went to check it, it had all disappeared! Anyway, I am back with a very Christmassy post for you all – the Christmas Tag! I have seen this tag on other people’s blogs before and I’ve always wanted to do it. As always with any tags that I do, I don’t tag anybody in specific (plus, it’s a bit late to be tagging people now haha) but if you want to do this tag, feel free!
1. What is your favourite Christmas film?
My all-time favourite has to be Elf! I think that Will Ferrell is such a good actor, and in Elf, he is absolutely superb. I have only watched Elf once this year so I think it’s about time to watch it again! It’s such a feel-good movie and it makes us all smile every single time.
I also love all of the Nativity! films, in particular, the first one. It reminds me of when I was back in primary school and the Christmas plays were always the main occasion. There’s a new one out this year and unfortunately I haven’t got round to seeing it so I will probably end up buying it on DVD when it comes out.
2. Have you ever had a white Christmas?
Not that I can recall! I’m pretty sure we’ve had a sludgy Christmas. We rarely get proper snow where I live, it’s normally sleet. If we do get proper snow, it normally rains on top of it so either way, it’s just a sludgy mess.
3. Where do you normally spend Christmas?
At home! We’ve always hosted Christmas as it was always easier when my brother and I were younger – all we wanted to do was to play with our toys! We’ve always spoke about going to spend Christmas in a hotel so my mom doesn’t have to cook, or even going to a pub for Christmas dinner, but it’s nice being in the comfort of your own home!
4. What is your favourite Christmas song?
I have soooo many! In fact, I have a whole playlist. My faves are…
Merry Christmas Everyone by Shakin’ Stevens
All I Want For Christmas is You by Mariah Carey
Feliz Navidad (not originally by Michael Buble but I like his version!)
Last Christmas by Wham!
Holly Jolly Christmas by Lady Antebellum
5. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
Nope! We aren’t allowed to open any gifts until Christmas Day. However, I do open presents off my friends in front of them just so I can say thank you (plus, I struggle to avoid the temptation).
6. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
Erm… Rudolph, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and Vixen. That’s all of them, right?
7. What Christmas traditions are you looking forward to this year?
We’ve visited the German Market in Birmingham which is something we do every year. I went earlier this week with my family and I went on Thursday evening with some friends!
I cannot wait to put our sacks out on Christmas Eve! It’s something my brother and I have always done. We always used to climb into our sacks, when we were younger, and pretend to fall asleep. I definitely want to get the board games out this Christmas, let’s hope there are no arguments!
8. Is your Christmas Tree real or fake?
Fake! My dad won’t let us get a real one haha.
9. What is your all-time favourite Christmas food/treat/sweet?
Pigs in Blankets make my mouth water just by thinking about them! They’re the best part of the Christmas Dinner in my opinion. I also LOVE Shortbread, I reckon I could eat a whole tin of shortbread. I’m not going to lie, I don’t think we’ve got any shortbread tins off anybody this year (judging by my feeling of the presents under the tree haha) and without sounding ungrateful, I’m a little gutted. We’ll have to pop out and get some before New Year!
10. Be honest: do you like receiving gifts or giving gifts better?
I’m not going to lie, it is nice to receive gifts at Christmas. However, I adore buying gifts for other people. I start looking for present ideas at the start of November and that’s what makes it the best time of the year. Of course, I do see the wider meaning of Christmas; Christmas isn’t just about receiving gifts. It’s about spending time with family and eating lots of good food! On that note, I would say that I prefer giving gifts as I love seeing people’s reactions.
11. What is the best gift you have received at Christmas?
More recently, the best gift that I have ever received is my Canon EOS 1300D Camera, back in 2016. I’d been doing GCSE photography and I was using a Fujifilm bridge camera which wasn’t the best of cameras, but it did the job. So, my parents very very very kindly got me a Canon camera which I had wanted for the longest time! I’m forever grateful, and it’s still my prized possession two years on.
When I was younger, I got a lot of toys which I probably didn’t need. I remember getting an easel one year which definitely got its use! As my mom is a primary school teacher, from a young age I always wanted to be like her. I would put my easel up, which had a blackboard and a whiteboard on it, and play schools. When my brother was about 3, I used to force him to sit and be a pupil in my ‘class’ along with all of our imaginary friends, but I would soon get into trouble when he’d start crying!
When my brother and I were a bit older, we got a couple of joint presents. One year we got a PS2 (so so long ago!) and another year we got a Nintendo WII. Both of these consoles got used so much! I loved the Playstation 2; my parents moved it into the conservatory so I could play Singstar for as long as I like. Looking back, I definitely know why they moved me into the conservatory, haha!
12. What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
I have always wanted to visit New York (because Elf is my favourite Christmas film) and I hope to do so in the next few years. The idea of visiting department stores in New York that are completely covered in Christmas decorations seems just so magical. I’ve never been ice skating, however I would love to go ice skating at the Rockefeller Center.
13. Are you a pro-present wrapper or do you fail miserably?
I would say I fall somewhere in the middle. I tend to get quite frustrated wrapping presents as I always want it to look perfect, so that’s why it takes me an awfully long time. I’m better than my mom though, she goes by a ‘as long as it’s covered’ motto! Well wrapped presents always look nice under the tree but to be honest, the wrapping paper only ends up in the bin anyway.
14. Most memorable Christmas moment?
I don’t think I have one in specific! I have always loved Christmas and I have fond memories of Christmas morning as a child. One of my favourite things on Christmas morning was to ring up my Nanny and Grandad (Seaside, as I called them) to wish them a Merry Christmas. My nan always used to sing ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’ down the phone to us! Sadly, they’re not with us anymore and I would love to just have one more phone call with them.
15. When did you realise the truth about Santa?
Whaaaatttt??! What do you mean?! I’m not going to lie, I was one of the later ones to find out, and I think I was about 10. My parents tried to keep the magic alive as much as possible. They don’t bother now because my brother is 13 and he knows too. However, I love that I’m able to pass on the Christmas magic at Brownies and also with the children who were at my work experience placement. Santa’s still real in my head!
16. Do you make New Years Resolutions and do you stick to them?
I always try to make them but I never stick to them! Perhaps I should make them a bit more realistic for 2019.
17. What makes Christmas special to you?
First of all, not being at school! I love the freedom in the holidays. My family mean the absolute world to me so I love being able to see them.
And that is it for the Christmas Tag – I hope you have enjoyed this post! There will be a couple more posts coming before the end of the year. If I don’t post again before Tuesday, I hope you all have the most wonderful Christmas. Make sure you take some time to yourself and do not do any school/uni/work stuff!
